01. App overview

Movie city is a smartphone applicaiton that could help both movie lovers and tourists find locations they are interested in. For movie lovers, you can go through the movie timeline or the A-Z list to find the movie you like, and explore the scenes location, add to favorites or get the directions. For tourists, movie city can show you the nearest movie scenes, and you can watch the movie clips to find where you wanna go.
With Movie city, you can easily find movie scene locations, get nearby movie scenes and share the fun with friends.

My girlfriend and I are both movie lovers. One day we were watching the“The pursuit of Happyness”, and we saw lots of beautiful scenes in San Francisco like the China-Town and the basketball court. The next day, we found those places and it felt very good. It was like we were part of the movie. Then we watched lots of movies shot in San Francisco and tried to find those places. It was like treasure hunting but more relaxing and enjoyable.

Then I had this idea: maybe I can make an application to help people to find and share those places and provide a platform to gather those information. That would be fun!

Base on the result of card sorting I tried four types of sketches that were operated by different methods.The final sketches gathered all advantages from other four original plans so that it can be operated easily and smoothly.

• With an improved design that grows with Makerbot, their branding update will give them the ability to compete with Ultimaker and Cubify
• An aesthetically clean and functional redesign will help Makerbot monopolize this industry by becoming number 1 in this category.
• This in turn will help increase products and grow into new markets for their technology.

• Be more attractive but simple, easy and clear navigation to use
• Make researching products, bill-paying and online purchasing of parts more easy to use
• Increase social media and networks presence

The goal of the site redesign is to provide a superior responsively designed website and an overall stronger web presence for Makerbot, which will in turn increase sales. The site will be clear and engaging on desktop, mobile, and tablet devices and will allow customers to easily research, compare, and purchase products.

With the redesign comes a more involved social media prescence achieved through augmented user flow and task efficiency. Refreshing the site’s design and functionality will pave the way for more engagement and sales from new and existing customers.

The new site will capitalize on updated user interface and user experience technology to position Makerbot as the first choice in 3d printing technology and at the forefront of rapid
prototyping innovation.
